Black and White Sunday

Thank you for the outpouring of thoughts about the decision facing me. I spent the day with my stomach literally in knots, and then the decision rained down on me from above. Indeed, as many of you suggested, K's spirit played a big role in the decision. I have contacted the "other parties" in the decision, and I am waiting to hear back before I tell you about our next family member! I don't want to have to retract my post tomorrow if the whole wonderful thing falls through...

Black and white Sunday... A great idea. Somehow, however, I suspect that creators of this tradition didn't expect photos like these ones!

A mountain lion entered a clearing where I have a trail camera and immediately focused on it. It emits a barely visible red glow at night. I'm not sure if it's the infrared glow or a faint smell from the camera that attracts animals to check it out.
 He approached with curiosity.
And, then he almost touched the camera with his nose. Can you count his whiskers in the photo below?
His eyes are huge, like saucers, as is the case in most nocturnal animals. This may be my favorite mountain lion photo that I've captured ever!

Now, I'm guessing that this is type of photo that was actually expected for Black and White Sunday!
R is a handsome dude, in my humble opinion!

  1. Yes, we agree R is Very Handsome! ;-) The other black n white photos of the Cougar are awesome. Looks like that one is posing - great closeup and he definitely seems curious about your camera. Good luck with your hard decision. Looking forward to hearing what it is.

  2. You're giving us such a cliffhanger! I know whatever you decide, it'll be the best thing for your sweet family.

Oh, I not expecting the trail camera photos for the B&W! But they're so cool, and outside the box!

R looks so good in B&W! I wouldn't think a black dog would show up well, but he looks great! You're right, he's very handsome ;)

  8. Just love the B&W photos. That mountain lion sure is checking things out.

Can't wait to hear what your final decision is going to be. I think K will guide you on this one! But, what if K does decide you need both of them? R and the runner certainly can't fight that decision! BOL

  9. I just want to reach up and pet that big ole mountain lion. But then, I have not been credited for being the smartest human in the world.

Great photos. Love the one of R.

Keeping my fingers crossed that all will run smoothly with your choice.

  20. Oh my!! Love the mountain lion shots. Having just fostered a 6 month old GSD for my beloved Dogs for Autism I will say take the 9 MO and RUN!! LOL However, there is definitely something to be said for having a dog since puppyhood. Standing in the yard at 3AM in 25 degree temps while the little fat puppy decides between playing, pooping or peeing or all three is somehow a bonding experience. Either way, another canine soul will be a blessing.

    Congrats!

  23. Your B&W pic's are beautiful. I would hate to meet that mountain lion while out on a ride tho. But is he ever curious!

We are keeping our paws crossed that all works out with the new addition to the family. We are gonna just hold our breath until we hear the good news....... Yup, still holding our breath!

  24. Your trailcam photos are just breathtakingly stunning. And I love the fact that you are so familiar with the whole variety of animals that live in your area, and have such amazing closeup photos of so many of them. I'm so glad you were the winner of the trailcam, I know it will be put to good use! Even if photos of R aren't what it takes -- but he's got the flashy box attached to you so he doesn't need to pose for a trailcam. :)

  25. R is indeed handsome!

A new addition? How exciting! No one can ever replace K - but you are right that a new pup can bring a lot of joy in its own special way. I think K would approve. Hopefully R does too! :)
